I dont know if anybody else gets obsessed with a tune where they have it on repeat for a while. I do. This is my latest gotta learn.
Does it sound like a hardanger at the begininng? and I think later Martin comes in with fiddle. At least that is what I hear..could be wrong there..
The chord backing on keys on perfect. Theres this low part and then what sounds like a single note that repeats no matter what the lower part of the chord is. I havent had a chance to play around with it but hoping tomorrow to give it a go 🙂
Here's a spot on transcription of it from what I hear in the midi on the session.
Anyway its a neat tune..thought id share. Been getting into more of these flat key'd tunes ( in this setting, i dont care about other versions of it for now ) lately and Im getting more used to fingerings.

I'm obsessed with everything I like well enough to memorize, so I listen repeatedly.
Not sure what you are hearing that's different, because your transcription is the correct one from the Gloaming 2. I know there's a hardanger player in the group, but sounded like just like a couple of fiddlers, to me.
I'd have to listen more, when I'm not tired - unmistakably Martin Hayes Style, though. 😊

Thanks for pointing that out, I hear what you are talking about.
I'm not sure if Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh is playing his hardanger first, and who comes in 2nd at 01:00. It sounds like it could be Martin 1st while Caoimhín backs him. My main reasoning - just went thru a bunch of their live performance videos and this seems always the case... unless you know of different?
I definitely have a timbre difference between my 5-string Viola & 5-string Violin!
I have a harder time telling the difference between your violins - could the timbre difference be brought out more by mic position?
Fun, interesting thing to consider when recording 2 voices.

Ill have to go with Fiddle is 2nd.. especially due to at the beginning of the track when just that instrument and piano..
mic placement..eq.. could change things but think im hearing the extra strings a bit at the beginning and up till 1:00 ..( Ive never heard a hardanger in person..only on youtube and recorded music...so..yeah)
look at us discecting a track 🤣

- I didn't think "look at us discecting a track" was snarky, merely letting us know you would be analyzing exactly what all the track contained.
good was afraid sounded harsh..
ill be happy just playing notes in tune for now. 😉 But yes..was getting a bit nerdy and overly involved with the details when talking about it. I really was Just sharing different things about it I liked.
I do think it helps stay inspired when I hear music I want to try and play. on the flip side it can also take the wind out of sails if expectations too high. kind of good to keep in mind where Im at and just try and enjoy the ride. Chats on here about music is part of it.

I really like the idea of deliberately adding contrast in timbre on our instruments - tone color!
🤔... dynamics, bow stroke choices.

I think Ill just keep this topic as a place holder for things I hear that id like to learn. Really like this one. Ive heard it a few times this weekend on pandora and collected it. I think alot of times the way a particular artist plays something can make the difference. I mean theres straight up standards like The Kesh Jig or swallow tail that most play similar...but I really like how she plays this and the chord backing. Im assuming the "Coleman" here is Michael but thats just a guess. It could be someone else. If anybody know for sure share it.

GREAT SET!
Nice little nest egg of tunes you're gathering! 🤗
I agree about who plays it/how it's played, makes all the difference to me - in whether or not I even take a 2nd look/listen!
Think your assumption of Michael is good, but you're killin' me - my list is ready to burst! 😵
