why do I feel I am going to regret this?

my camera (and sound quality) is so poor, but in a couple of weeks my friend has allowed me to use his studio room at his house, so I thought this would be a good "before" in anticipation of the "after"facepalm

Hi Terry

I can't get your link to work, but I think I have already proven my technological ineptitude, so it maybe operator error!

Don't worry how you sound, though - the worst that can happen is that we will be amazed by your progress in the studio!dancing

Yay, I could see it!

You got nothing to be embarrassed of, I hope to be half so recognizable when I can [finally] play.

noteThe tune was recognizable

noteThe song was more in tune than not [to my ear, anyway].

Have just seen your pictures of your grandfather's violin. Now I'm really looking forward to hearing you play it!

I agree

Terry, you have no need to be embarrassed, that was great thumbs-up. One thing that I think that I am really going to like about this site is the ability to post videos and receive feedback to help us track our progress.

keep up the good work.

I am looking forward to playing it, once I get the mechanical tuners to work [see my "tuneless" post]. I have some sewing machine oil, so I will see if I can get them unstuck. If not, I guess I need to order new tuners. I am reluctant to go back to regular pegs, just because it would seem an insult to my Grandpa.

Lot's of good things going on there Terry.
I love the way you old the violin up in the exact right spot and angle with your arm well under.
I would like to give you a free 10 minute online lesson for your right hand bow hold and wrist movement. It's hard to explain in words.
Most of your fingered notes are slightly high. Nothing to be embarrassed about for sure. We all play out of tune. The next step is for you to listen to your recording and see if you can recognize the intonation imperfections.

Keep up the great work and thanks for the post. Feel like I know you even better now. smile

Thanks Fiddlerman, that's good news on the whole. Certainly noticed the note intonation on the video compared to having my left ear stuck by the F hole.
Once I get my Skype mic sorted I'll certainly take you up on your offer .cheers

wow Terry... aside from the slight note pitch issue FM mentioned, that violin has GREAT sound...It just rings with volume.dancing

I bet it would record even better if you were someplace more open, like outside on a porch or in a backyard rather than in a hard walled kitchen. There's so many surfaces to bounce sound off, I bet it mucked up your recording a bit. The wide open areas don't let that happen.

Just a thought.

Keep up the progress.

So, if the village is so small I bet it still has a great pub. Maybe a couple of mugs and an hour of jam time with the local tune makers would get you started in the right direction....LOLcoffee2
