Currently working on getting badges to show up horizontally. Should hopefully figure that out within a week. Thanks for your patience.

I was feeling inspired by the Song from a Secret Garden video on the vibrato thread so I have literally just found the music in first position ( said it’s easy .. it so isn’t ) and I am still working out the notes etc. however I recorded myself from a different angle and can’t believe I’m posting it but how bad is my posture … another thing to work on !

@Katie L -
Lora hit the nail on the head.
Pretty much the whole reason for my Is It Worthwhile To Memorize Music You Play Thread. I agree with Lora, I just think it's hard to delve into those aspects of playing without first memorizing the piece.
Even if you aren't ready to take a step farther, you might enjoy Prof Madeleine Mitchell's video in Becoming a Complete Violinist (Violist, Cellist) Thread.

I liked the video Emily I’ll have to watch it again as lots of good info.
I think my practice is going ok this week, I’m liking my new shoulder rest and no aches at all. Also keeping in mind about distributing the weight and I think that is helping. Also now that I can reach the tip I’ve been practicing d major scale just at the top quarter to the bow to try and get used to it.
I’m just concentrating on Secret Garden at the moment and keeping in mind to practice slowly and in tune. !

Thank you!
I had thought about a blog, but feel my progress in learning to play music on my instruments is closely linked to, and inspired by, everything I've learned & discussed here with members on the forum.

Yes you put a load of good info on !! I definitely appreciate everything you post !
I have been practicing a lot today . Really struggling with my fourth finger on the d string playing the a. But I was sort of ok with my intonation! That reminds me, I was watching a Nicola Benedetti series of lessons on an Elgar piece it was excellent and I think I can apply it to my own piece. She takes ages to even make a sound.. so much to think about ! I’ll find the link …
The link isn’t working but the vid is called …
Learn With Nicky: Salut d'amour - Lesson 1

I’ve had a couple of twenty minute practice sessions so far today and managed to start training myself on intervals. This is very very basic (gotta start somewhere) but I can hear an open string then first finger sounds like happy birthday and if it’s out of tune it sounds off. So that’s a major second or a whole step. And that’s on any open string and first finger. I can also hear how a minor second a half step sounds like jaws. Which is a first finger to a low second.
so I can definitely hear if it’s out of tune a bit but if I keep practicing will I be able to tell if it’s a tiny bit out of tune? My aim to be be able to not have to use my tuner at all.

It gets easier in time, with lots of due diligence, I personally find as I shift into different positions on the neck with different tambour's I need to double check my self until I'm familiar with that register.
I've have played a high note and swore it was in tune even argued with my teacher who has perfect pitch hearing, only to be proven it was indeed flat.
I really hate eating crow!
Never hurts to take a quick double check with a meter then go back to playing with out one..

Some of the videos in the Traditional Fiddle Intonation vs. Classical Violinist Intonation Thread scared me to death when they started talking about telling when we're out of tune by a few cents!
I'm sure if you keep at it, you'll get there! 🤗
@Mark -
I can relate!
I don't have a teacher, but there's been plenty of times I swear I'm hearing the right notes - only to find out I was mistaken after I listen again, the next day or so.
There's too many days I can't even tell when my violin strings are that close to being in tune - seems like there's still too much of a gray area, more than I'm comfortable with, that sounds okay to me. 🥴

That’s what I’ve been doing Mark checking with my tuner .
I will keep going with the intervals Emily it’s making sense now.
That made me laugh Gordon I need to change my name and my blog name !! I keep think that and I did try to do it. I haven’t practiced Sevcik for months! I can see the book on the spare bed and I walk past it everyday ! If anyone knows how to change my name and blog name let me know !! I’m Katie L now I got married !

I’m Katie M I need to be Katie L . No big deal really. But I need a better name for my blog.
I just had a twenty minute practice session and I only had to bring my violin away from playing it once ! I used to have to take it away from my shoulder every few minutes. So I thought that was good. I also am in a different room now and can’t see into all my neighbours’ gardens so I’m less distracted ! So what with that and making progress understanding intervals I think I’m doing okaaaaaaaaaaay !!!
