Remove the tapes and I can almost guarantee that you will remember. You may even surprise yourself and find that you play better.

I read somewhere that you can put cork(or any suitable substitute) in between the fingers for about 5 minutes every day which will help to improve the stretching.  Over to FM for his comments.

LOL ... I'm too scared to take off the tapes.  Sort of security blanket for me.

I'll try it anyway, if it doesn't work, you'll have to listen to the noise until I manage to get them back on, ok?

Okay - I'll take the tapes off and see how it sounds. I find that my fingers migrate away from the tapes as I play a longer song, but I think it's an issue with my double-jointedness and thumb. Still working on so many things.

Pky, I think that you should respect the teachers opinion. She will probably agree that it should come off soon. They usually only use it long enough for the child to get familiar with the position.

Thanks, FM, I did not and would not take the tapes off my daughter's violin, but i encourage her not to look at it or practice with her eye closed:P

BTW, I showed my video clip to four of my co-workers, one just couldn't stop smiling, I think i'm getting better to "show off" myself now that i posted it heredancing

I bet they were impressed when you told them how long you've been playing right?

Thanks for all the constructive comments! I'm working very hard to get my intonation right and to remind myself not to move my upper arm. It's tough and frustrating! I felt like I didn't make any progress at all.

Sara, it's was tough to "sell" myself, it has always been. However, I felt okay to show my colleagues, still shy but since it's on video, not live, I was okay.

Fiddlerman, the bow did not bounce on this song, it usually bounced on Campbell's Farewell to Red Gap:P.

BTW, David or MGN, or anybody else who uses the tuner that come with cecilio violin:  Do you have any problem with your tuner? i have two of them, one is totally off. When the other one said all the strings are in tuned, that one says they are too high off. I also double checked with FM's tuner. I reallized that his is tuned to 443, and mine is 440, so now I switched to 443.

@ pky

Yes the tuner that came with the Cecilio violin is off, I can't remember if mine was high or low. I have been using a tuning app on my android phone. Very accurate and very adjustable as far as pitch, microphone gain level, tuner sensitivity...how fast the needle swings in response to input. I was thinking maybe the batteries were getting low in the Cecilio tuner, but I have not checked it since I began using my phone.

Hey pk, I too noticed FM's online tuner is a little high. I'm sticking with 440 because that's how I tune my guitar as well. I checked my Cecilio tuners are correct at 440 too. Could of just got lucky there. On those Cecilio tuners they do have the flat button so make sure you don't see any little flat cymbals showing on the left side of the tuner incase you hit that button by mistake

It's set for 443. This is a very common tuning for symphony orchestras. I'm used to it and it's therefor the right pitch in my head. Never need to use a tuner it just feels right.

I just had a chance to see your video. You are doing great. just focus on correcting one thing at a time. I have realized learning to play is a progress. Take one step at a time and never loose the passion to play. I can't wait to see your progress in 5 more weeks. thumbs-up

Thanks, Paul.

MGN, Thanks for the b tips. I did notice that there were tiny teeny bs on my tuner, after I got rid of those symbols, the tuner is fine. so, David, check yours, it might be the same issue.

Glad I could help there pky. When I was messing around figuring out the tuner that's what happened to me too.

Good work, pky! cheerleader

Maybe i will repeat somebody.. but about your famous left pinky: try to make it more rounded - it will prevent the double-jointedness in future.

About tapes. I've only seen them in i-net. Of course i've met not too many violinist, but those who i know never used them dunno. My friend's daughter (was 6 years old, when begun playing violin) never has something like that too. Our teachers don't use any marks on fingerboard.

Take them off! Use your ears! The sooner you do that - the sooner you will be able to play in tune. If one use the orthopedic boots without a necessary he can hardly feel comfortable in ordinary shoes..
